In News, Vesta Home Show

An activity that might have been taken for granted a few years ago — home building — is a bigger deal because so much of it vanished the past few years.

The Memphis Area Home Builders Association and member builders break ground Wednesday to build five houses for the 2012 Fall VESTA Home Show.

The organization didn’t even have a show in 2011.

“We’ve been hosting this show for over 30 years, and after missing two years, there is a tremendous air of excitement and anticipation for this 2012 Show,” executive director Don Glays said.

The show will feature the new St. James Place, a gated 12-lot subdivision on Forest Hill Irene in Germantown.

Five builders will participate, each one building a custom-designed home on a 1-acre lot. The show homes will be a minimum of 4,500 square feet and priced from $675,000 to $750,000.

The five builders are: Phil Bryce with Bryce Homes, Jon Ruch with Ruch Builders, Dave Moore with The Dave Moore Companies, Darin Halford with Darin K. Halford Builder, and Dave Tucker with D&D Custom Homes.

The homes will have the latest construction technologies, decorating trends, appliances and furniture, said Jimmy Moore, association president.

The VESTA show will be Oct. 6-28.
